I was born in Yerevan, Armenia. I studied physics at Yerevan State University and started my career at the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory, where I traded telescopes for terminals and fell in love with building software.
I went on to build products across startups and scale-ups — from ride-hailing at ggTaxi to time-tracking at Jibble to co-founding OnQuark, a customer communication platform. Along the way I contributed to open source, creating PostgreSQL extensions like pg_hashids, pg_ulid, and pg_xid that are used by thousands of developers.
I currently serve as CTO at SoftConstruct, an 8,000-person technology company behind products like BetConstruct, FeedConstruct, Ucraft, and Hoory. I lead the engineering organization and care deeply about building systems that are both elegant and resilient.
I write about engineering leadership, database internals, and the things I learn along the way.
